This handle is likely from an mid-1880s interment

Buried Marker

This grave marker was found beneath the modern ground surface. The images (l-r) show the condition of the marker when initially discovered lying face down, the front of the marker after excavation and removal, a photo taken during reflectance transformation imaging (RTI) and detail of the RTI image highlighting the stone carving tool marks. Inscription reads, “In / Memory / of Sarah Jane / daughter of / Andrew & Margaret / Smith died May / the __ 18_ aged / 9 months and 9 / days
